Pulled out some washed stored fleece from Sadi. She has wonderful length and crimp. I have decided to use a Schacht flicker and spin from the lock which is not something I normally do. I want to do a few sample knits. Sadi's fleece has lightened over the years. She has a mix of loose crimp (shown in photo) and a tighter corkscrew crimp with a lovely hand. Her britch area is a thicker straight fiber that I am going to spin by itself. The britch fiber would do great in the toe area of a sock or a high friction area in a knitted project. I will share my progress as I go. :)

Memories from our extended Spinning Family... Miss Lego is not only the matriarch of the flock; She is also one of our customers favorite spinning fleeces. Lego's locks and roving have been shipped throughout the US and across the border to Canada as well. The photos below were shared with us from a talented spinner residing in Hawaii. She purchased some of Lego's roving to spin and create a sweater. Yes, a sweater. ;) She is originally from the east coast. She sent this lovely email along with the photos: " Just started spinning with Lego’s fiber this weekend. Oh, my goodness! It is amazing. So fun to work with and the fiber is soft and elastic. I will be needing more in the near future! Thank you again." She did indeed contact me within the next few weeks to buy another pound of roving from the same lot. We have been truly blessed with wonderful customers who help us to support our small family farm and share their experiences and enjoyment of our lovely wool

Shave Em' to Save Em' Program Finishes

Hello Everyone! It has been a busy time at Story's Shetlands sorting the 2020 fleeces. The first round has been listed to the Fleece page and soon roving will be following. The roving has a tendency to sell fast. If there is a particular color you are looking for, please do not hesitate to send an email. I will be more than happy to check on availability. Also if you are wanting washed fleece, locks, or smaller quantities of fleece, please give us a shout. Not everyone wants a whole sheep fleece in their house. I know my hubby wishes we had a few dozen less, and those numbers do not include the Shetlands!! ;) The SE2SE Program from the Livestock Conservancy has kept me hopping. Fiber enthusiasts are sincerely the most wonderful people who grace this planet. Thanks to the Conservancy, we have met so many individuals whose hopes match ours in keeping the small wool sectors alive, healthy, and productive. Wool is a tremendous renewable resource and overlooked by many. I

Getting Back to Business - Fleece Washing

The farm yard has been crazy! The Shave 'Em to Save 'Em program has kept this Grandma super busy! I am not complaining. It is a heart warming feeling to see all of the beautiful yarn being created by some amazingly talented spinners. Now, I am busy collecting some photos to share here. These spinners creations deserve to be shared, and I will in the up coming weeks. Not gonna lie to all of you... I took a few weeks hiatus from creating more clean and processed fiber, since I knew I would be taking an extended holiday weekend after the 4th. Today is W day.... The day marked and assigned for washing fleece. It has to be done and the temperature is so lovely for July. Maybe tomorrow, I will do a little thrift shopping. My other favorite passion! ;) But today, today is dedicated to fleece and the cleaning of... Let the washing of the fleece begin!
